Seat construction must be extremely strong because it is one of the hardest used pieces of furniture. In addition to mortise and tenon joints, the strongest type of joinery, the tenons are also pinned to add additional strength. Additional supports are used to provide a more solid base for the seat. Seats that are not going to be upholstered are carved out using various power and hand tools to provide the traditional type of dish seat seen on wooden chairs and stools. Various back angles are used depending on the type of seat and these angles are tested on mock up pieces to ensure that they are comfortable. Booths and hall seats use a standard 18 inch seat height unless otherwise requested. Stools vary depending on the application. Most seating is finished with hard wearing polyurethane to protect against abrasion. For oiled pieces, oil will need to be reapplied as necessary depending on use.
