Tiger Maple Lamps

Tiger maple or also curly maple lamps. Lamps are made from solid steam-bent tiger maple with an Asian influence in the design. Capped ends and inlay are from ebony and inlaid dovetails and base bottoms are purpleheart. Wood lampshade is made from birch and is end grain turned on the lathe to 1/16 of an inch thick. Shade is capped with quilted maple veneer. The finish is a two part process consisting of seven coats of a tung oil / polyurethane blend. Final coat is 4 coats of a boiled linseed oil, tung oil and shredded beeswax blend. This blend is heated to melt the wax, cooled and hand buffed to a final semi-gloss finish.
